Course Description

Course Overview


This course will explore the ever‑changing state of Maine’s multiple economies—from regional disparities such as the relative prosperity of York and Cumberland counties compared to the financial challenges in Washington and Aroostook counties, to key industries including lobstering, timber and forestry, and the rapidly growing marijuana sector. We will also examine Maine’s population and workforce crises and consider how federal policies shape the state’s businesses and educational institutions.

Guest speakers will include government officials, professors, and industry experts.

What to Expect

Classes will include a mix of lecture, discussion, and visual presentations. Guest speakers will include government officials, professors, and industry experts. (The sessions will be recorded, with the recording link available to view for two weeks for registered participants.)

 

About the Instructor / Moderator: Bernard (Berney) Kubetz

Berney Kubetz is a semi-retired trial attorney whose 50 years practice focused on Constitutional Law and the First Amendment. He has led three outstanding courses at PVSC – “Freedom of the Press and The First Amendment”, “Unmasking the Courts”, and “The State of American Democracy”, and a follow-up presentation, “The President, The Constitution, and the Courts: An Update.”
