Course Description

Course Overview

“Stick” furniture is among the most popular rustic furniture styles.  Hardwood saplings and sticks are tenoned together to make furniture, which is highly expressive, yet thoroughly functional.  The class is open to absolute beginners, who will be attracted by the accessibility of the skills and materials, and to more experienced repeat members who will enjoy designing with the fluidity, spontaneity and surprising strength of the rustic building process. The class will have opportunities to use both vintage and modern rustic furniture construction tools as well as to discuss materials and techniques, harvesting and design. Each participant will build a small table or bench of their own design, primarily from red maple.
