Course Overview
In-Peron Course:
Update 3/7/2026:
We’re excited to share an update that we have added a second way to access this 3D and Me course, so members can learn together ans support one another. The virtual ZOOM option is still accessible for those who prefer to access on ZOOM from home.
Bring your computer, iPad, or other device, and follow-along with Dave as we project his screen on the big display at UMA-Bangor in Eastport Hall Room 135. You’ll be able to watch his demonstrations while using his shared educational program on your own device. Dave will also be sending some of his 3D-created items for you to explore. We are also hoping to arrange a visit to the UMaine Advanced Structures and Composites Center on April 16th, which should be a great addition to the course experience. We look forward to seeing you and learning together.
This six-week In-Person course offers an engaging, easy-to-follow introduction to the world of 3D printing. No prior technical experience is needed. Together, the class will explore the history of 3D printing, the different types of printers. how they work, and the many ways you can participate–from using local printing services to understanding what’s involved in owning a home printer.
The group will also spend time learning how 3D printing files are created. This includes designing a simple project using a free online 3D CAD program–done step-by-step during class so everyone can follow along comfortably. Weekly friendly discussions and clear demonstrations will help make the learning process enjoyable and accessible.

Keep these ideas in mind; we’ll talk about them and other objects during the second session. Just bring your curiosity!
